Twilight versus newspaper by Alasou Twilight versus newspaper by Alasou
I get very lonely lately. I’m alone all day, and sometime I just want to play some video games with my old video games buddy or talk to my friends. But it’s not always possible, or worse. And it’s happen a lot lately. And drawing is an lonely activity. At a point that I don’t want to draw. But it’s ok. In this case I have to apply my old therapy. Buying and playing a videogame I wanted for a long time. I’ve used the money i needed to by new glasses (I still have enough anyway) and bought Bioshock Infinite (normally, I play a Fire Emblem, my favorites series in all categories, but i don’t have a 3ds and not enough money to buy one, plus awakening). So I maybe I won’t upload everyday during the next days. Well, if steam accept to dl faster -__-

I can honestly say that I have never seen a piece of Twilight art that looks quite like this! The idea and concept are great and I can really see your intention here through the wonderful character design, magnificent lighting, and some of the best shading I have seen. The piece is very detailed while still remaining true to the show! I love the serious expression and how you went out of your way to add some line work in her mane! The colors are very lush and work in harmony woth everything else! This is a great piece and I hope to see more in the future! Great work! Kind regards, Princess Luna

What to say about this piece? Well, as this is my first critique, I'll try to be thorough in my approach:
a) First off, the subject, Twilight Sparkle reading a newspaper. A simple choice, but quite original, actually. Not out of character for her, either. It actually makes a nice extrapolation from her love of books to make her a general devotee of printed matter. After all, what's more classic printed material than the newspaper? It's a very nice, succinct statement of who Twilight Sparkle is. If you could get Hasbro's endorsement, it would be nice to see that as part of a series of posters to promote libraries.
b) Second, the style. While the style is very close to the show, it's not so close that I had to take points from it. Frankly, the added details make this work. The reading glasses, the slightly lidded eyes, all give the impression that she's been interrupted while reading something very important. I admit, I also like the slight rumpled look to her hair, as if her appearance is the last thing she's concerned about. They all come together to just fit so well. The only things I feel it lacks are a background (such as a nice comfortable chair in the library, perhaps?) and the lines, which lack a certain... heft, I suppose, making it look a little too much like a plastic toy, at least to my eye. It is, however, not enough so to make me dislike the piece. In short, my critiques are meant as tweaks to make it perfect, rather than actual points of dislike.

In short, I quite like this piece, and shall happily add it to my Favorites.

Loneliness can be a real bitch sometimes.

If it's any consolation, I know how you feel.

"What? I don't only read books and scrolls."

Uh, no. It's not that. How can you hold that paper with your hooves?

*sigh* "Magic...."

You don't seem to use magi-

".... hooves".

..... Are you kinding me?

"Yes. Now, let me read."

Paper was first invented in China, but papyrus was first invented in Egypt as a form of bandaging for the deceased.

Whose winning :)?? Good shading on twilight, especially the strength in the eyes.

In response to your note - Video Games are my cure all too! Nothing beats the excitement of beginning a new adventure. So much so, i'm training to make them. I use them as an escape too. Life is lonely, and I sometimes feel the more lonely you get the more lonely life becomes. You almost lose the ability to socialise, at least I do. However if you do get really really lonely, there's always someone somewhere whose willing to chat, that's the gift of the internet I guess :). I don't know you and you don't know me, but keep your chin up!
